I wish to make a correction and a qualification to Lloyd Gerson’s review of Giancarlo Movia (ed.), Alessandro di Afrodisia e la “Metafisica” di Aristotele, in so far as it concerns my own contribution to the volume.

Through a typing error, the review gives the title of my contribution as “Pseudo-Alexander or Aristotle, Metaphysics L”. It should be “on”, not “or” — the suggestion that pseudo-Alexander was actually the author of Metaphysics L would indeed be an exciting one, but one with a plausibility of zero.

The qualification is that (as I think the notes to my paper indicate), it was written before I had the opportunity to see Concetta Luna’s discussion in her Trois études sur la tradition des commentaires anciens à la Métaphysique d’Aristote (Leiden: Brill, 2001). If I had been aware of her arguments when I wrote the paper, I would have been more hesitant in questioning the attribution to Michael of Ephesus. That does not however affect the conclusion that the commentary is at any rate later than Simplicius.
